Roderick Roberson Obituary

Roderick O. Roberson “Train,” age 43, of Searcy, AR was sent to be with God on August 10, 2021. The son of Joseph Chester Roberson and Rose Whitney was born on February 13, 1978. While growing up, Roderick spent most of his time between Kensett, AR and Omaha, NE. Roderick graduated from Searcy High School on May 17, 1997, where he began making many lifelong friends and becoming an inspiration to others. If you knew Roddy, you knew just how easy it was for him to make lasting and personable impressions on those who surrounded themselves by him.

His favorite sport was football, although he also enjoyed a series of other sports, such as basketball, baseball, and track. Football is how he got the nickname, Train, because when he tackled, it was said that it was like being hit by a freight train. He loved life to the fullest, had a big heart and would give anyone he loved, his last. Rod encouraged everyone to work their hardest; he made it known that you could do anything you put your mind and time to. His favorite things to do were to hang out with family and friends, spend time outside, man the grill, make his “famous omelets and hamburgers,” and root for the New York Jets. If you were to ever challenge Roderick, be sure you were up for a real challenge, because you’d probably be defeated due to his very competitive nature. Regardless of the competition, Roddy was always a friend.

He is proceeded in death by his grandmothers, Victoria Brewer, Joan Bass, and Mary Alice Whitney and stepfather, Robert Whitney. His wonderful life will forever be cherished and honored in the lives of his children: Kelcie Roberson, Blakeleigh Roberson, Izreal Roberson, India Baker, Olivia Roberson, and Mia Baker; mother and father, Rose Whitney of Searcy, AR, Joseph Chester Roberson of St. Louis, MO; sister, LaToya Thompson (Brandon) of Fort Worth, TX, step sister and brother, Nicole Scruggs, Darnell Scruggs of Arkansas, uncle Charles Smith (Emily), aunts Cynthia Bass, Tina Miller (Leonard), Mary Washington, Louis North (Orell), Cynthia Arnold-Hill (Carl), Sherry Jones (Kenneth), Teresa Harrison, Hattie Jackson (Earl), Consuelo Whitney; Tina Whitney and a host of devoted family and friends who will forever live with his memory.

Roderick will be greatly missed.
