John Cloyd McEuen, 71, of McRae entered eternal rest August 25, 2020 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was born July 28, 1949 at Searcy to the late Thomas Cloyd “Mac” and Hilda Marie Allen McEuen. John married his love, Jaronda Alford, May 5, 1973 in McRae. He negotiated a trade with Jaronda’s dad for her hand in marriage: his new John Deere 4020 for his blessing. He got to keep both. Together they shared 47 years of matrimony.
John was a member of McRae First Baptist Church. He will be remembered there for his recitation of hymns as the congregation sang in worship. Although he was not a vocalist, John did enjoy toe tapping to music with his grandkids; a favorite was “Lollipop”. You can imagine the sweet smiles and laughter as he “popped” along with the lyrics, fingers pointing and arms swinging. John worked most of his life as a farmer. He would tell you his best crop, a doubled crop, in the summer of 1982, the year his twin boys were born.
He was known as the “John Deere-ologist” who could fix any problem internally or externally. Just give him a bolt, nut and a can of green paint and you would have a tractor by sundown. He enrolled his sons and grandkids to attend “John School” so they would know their way around tractors and small engines as well. John also loved to work the land. He loved clearing fence lines and trees while breathing the smell of fresh turned dirt. He was also known as the family’s self-proclaimed meteorologist. He kept his family safely informed of all weather reports. He only need cover the McRae area since he insisted his family live within the same zip code. John was also an avid reader and a bit of a historian. If he read about it, he could recall it for later conversation. It was his way or the highway, no matter your opinion. He was always up for a moment of reminiscing days gone past.
Along with his wife, Jaronda, those left to cherish his memories are his sons, Brent (Audrey) McEuen and Brett (Christina) McEuen; sister, Mary (Shirrell) Harrison; grandchildren, Shelby, Blake, Tinley, Taylor, Lyric, and Kinsleigh; nieces, Mollie, Michelle, Dana, and Tracy; nephews, Shane, Brian, Brad, Mark, and Stephen; and lastly his beloved dog and best buddy, Nash. John also leaves a host of many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service Friday, August 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. both to be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Searcy.
